What you need to know about Allegheny County, Howard County, and Tuscon

The trend toward municipalities passing their own minimum wage and paid sick leave laws continues to roll on in 2022.

So far this year, three communities have added new labor laws:

  • Allegheny County, Pennsylvania enacted a Paid Sick Leave Ordinance, effective March 15, 2022. It applies to employers with 26 or more employees in the county.
  • Tucson, Arizona added a new minimum wage law, effective April 1, 2022. The rate is $13 per hour.
More Local Posting Requirements
  • Howard County, Maryland passed a minimum wage law, effective April 1, 2022. The rate is $14 per hour for large employers and $12.50 per hour for small employers.

Posters needed

Employers in these communities need to display posters to inform employees about the new laws. The Allegheny County and Tucson laws include posting requirements, and the Maryland Department of Labor Indicates that a Howard County minimum wage poster must be displayed by employers in the county.

National trend

Nationwide, there are more than 50 cities and counties with local minimum wage, paid sick leave, or other laws. Employers in these communities need to follow the local laws (as well as state and federal laws) and display all required posters.

Update Service includes local posters

Employers with the Update Service from J. J. Keller & Associates automatically receive a local poster if one is required in their community. When there’s a mandatory change, a new poster is shipped to them.
